The Brief
Olson's Bicycles is a local small business. When I was approached for the project, some of the site goals included (1) a simple design, (2) a website that is easy to update and maintain, (3) a clean product page, and (4) a page that shows an excerpt of the business' social media. While the website is not intended for e-commerce, the goal is to show the products to invite customers to visit the store and check the product out in person.

Challenges
A problem with the older version of the site was that it was difficult to update. For much of it, the client would have needed to know how to get in the back end of the website to make changes. Even though the website ran using WordPress before, it was not created in a way that is easy to update. With the revision of the website, the focus was to make it usable, not just for the people who will use the site but also for the client who would update it later on as the needed arises. Additional sections were also added like a specs section to give it a more professional look and to give the users more information as they choose a bicycle to purchase.

Lessons
This website impressed on me the the reality that the importance of proper training for the client. Why is that necessary? As website designers, we are happy to make needed changes to a site per request. However, it happens more often that the needed changes are small and would be more cost effective for the client to update. By giving the client proper training, they would have the ability to make minor changes to the content of the site in accord to their business needs. This project also taught me how to integrate an e-commerce plugin to display products.
